The vessel “Maersk Kalmar” was hit by the Unifeeder vessel “Conmar Avenue” on 07.05.2013 in River Weser.
Both vessels were on their way to Bremerhaven, Germany when the incident happened. Reportedly no persons were injured and no pollution has taken place but the incident has effected the original planned vessel schedule.
The largest industrial action in Hong Kong for decades has ended after hundreds of port workers compromised and accepted a pay increase package offered by contractors of Hongkong International Terminals (HIT).
A fire broke out on one of the Atlantic Cartier’s car decks at approximately 1900 hrs on 1st May. The vessel is now at berth in the Port of Hamburg. The Hamburg Fire Department were alerted and responded immediately on-board and on the water with fire boats to provide hull cooling. No injuries, no oil spills and no pollution occurred as a result of the incident. The fire on board was extinguished and surveyors are evaluating the damage.
The length of time required for repairs is not yet known, but ACL have already started the process of securing a chartered vessel to cover Atlantic Cartier’s position in their schedule. All containers original scheduled for loading on the Atlantic Cartier from Liverpool on the 07-5 have now been transfered for loading on the Atlantic Compass ETD LIV 11-5 ETA NYK 21-5.

The HKG pay dispute escalated into a strike at the end of last month and the number of strikers has since quadrupled to more than 400. With no end in sight to the Kwai Tsing dock strike, shippers are working on back-up plans to move Hong Kong cargo through ports in Guangdong, China.

Radio Television Hong Kong said on its Website that “striking dockers have vowed to escalate their industrial action, if port contractors stick to their 7-percent pay offer”.
Radio Television Hong Kong reported “talks between striking dock workers and the contractors who employ them have broken off without any immediate progress” and the strike was expected to continue into its 14th day on Thursday. It said a three-hour meeting on Wednesday was held under mediation of the Labor Department where the Union of Hong Kong Dockers “expressed their demands on pay, overtime and break times”.
